The Queen’s Beasts Collection brings age-old symbols of ancestry, power, and heraldry to life as magnificent creatures on prestigious coins. Royal Mint coin designer Jody Clark has reimagined the ten beasts that stood guard at the coronation of Her Majesty The Queen in 1953. Each royal protector representing a strand of her heritage, an ancestor watching over this young woman as she made a solemn vow to the nation.
The coin featuring the White Lion of Mortimer is the latest release in the collection and the second lion to appear. Unlike the fierce, rampant Lion of England, the White Lion represents loyalty and discipline and sits in a less aggressive position.
The White Lion came to Her Majesty through her Yorkist heritage. First used by Roger Mortimer, Earl of March (1328–60), a founder Knight of the Order of the Garter, it passed to the House of York and was used by both Richard II and Edward IV.
The Lion holds a shield bearing the white rose of York combined with the sun’s golden rays – the sun badge was important to Edward IV, who saw the sun as a portent of good luck in battle. Jody Clark, designer of the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II that appears on the obverse of this one-ounce gold coin, has portrayed the White Lion of Mortimer side-on, accentuating the most important parts of the Lion’s story – its mane, tail, and shield.

“In stock” coins will be shipped fully insured within 3-5 business days.
“Out of Stock” coins are items which are currently not available for purchase.
“Awaiting stock” means we are awaiting a delivery of items.
“On back order” coins are items which can be bought at the live spot price on the day but can take 4-8 weeks to source and deliver.
We will deliver your order in the fastest and safest way possible as soon as payment is cleared and the stock is available. We use Royal Mail, UPS and FedEx for our deliveries.
Please note that due to the increase in the gold price, we are unable to dispatch 500 gram and 1kg bars as it exceeds our insurance limits. Bars can still be collected in person or kept in secure storage.
Our packaging is discrete and we do everything to minimise the chance of anyone guessing the contents of the parcel. No reference to bullion or coins will be on the packaging.
We ask that you assist us in getting the order to you safely by making sure that the addresses you register are correct and that any card payments are made from a card registered in both your name and also to your address.
All parcels of any value are fully insured by us until signed for by someone at your address.
We cannot be held responsible for delays to the postal system which may affect delivery of your goods, which are beyond our control.
Collection
Orders that have been fully paid in advance can be collected from our office after we have contacted you to inform you that your package is ready to collect.
When you come to collect you must produce identification and a copy of the invoice for the goods you are collecting. We cannot release the goods to 3rd parties.
Storage
We offer a high security and insured storage solution from £10 or 0.065% per month. Our storage service includes free delivery to the vault, individual sub accounts and fully insured storage.
