The new 2021 Britannia 1oz silver coin is part of the first generation of new extra-secure bullion coins released by The Royal Mint. While the coin still contains 31.1 grams of fine silver with purity of 999 parts per thousand, added security features built into the design including a new holographic spot on the coin’s reverse.
The reverse features Britannia, the female warrior, an emblem and national representation of Britain from the Roman era. The coin displays a new background effect to mimic waves which has been instated as part of the new anti-counterfeit measures.
The obverse side of the coin shows Her Majesty The Queen’s portrait, by Jody Clark, introduced in 2015, along with the reintroduction of the iconic Britannia design first seen in 1672. The Queen can be seen wearing the King George IV State Diadem – the crown worn for the State Opening of Parliament – as well as special Diamond Jubilee drop pearl earrings.
The British Britannia is a £2 coin legal tender coin in the UK, making it Capital Gains Tax Free (CGT Exempt) and therefore an extremely popular purchase.
